Fuuka

If you haven’t seen this anime be advised that **SPOILERS** will be below.

Characters

Fuuka

I really did love her character, she was so adorable and likeable. When she first meets Yuu and destroys his phone and slaps him I was thinking oh great she’s going to be this really mean character and I’m going to end up hating her. But that wasn’t the case; she ends up being a sweet girl but kind of a loner till she meets Yuu. She loves music and has a wonderful voice. (I love to sing so it resonated with me). It felt relatable to how many of us feel or have at least felt at one time in our lives “what do I want to do”. I felt that her character could have grown a little bit more, at times I did start to get a bit bored of what felt like repetition. I think she liked Yuu from the beginning but was in denial or unconsciously liked him, I did hate that she ended abandoning the band because she couldn’t deal with her feelings for Yuu and her jealousy towards I understand how she felt but music with the band was her dream and she just walked away from it she basically did a sell out . I really did love at the end of the anime where she went back to the band but had to explain to her record label and she went to the office and looked so scared to tell him and her boss made a CD of her band to sell, basically saying that he wanted to sign fallen moon.

Yuu

Liked his character but man thank god he meet Fuuka because that boy needed to put that phone down once in a while and live a little. The first couple episodes were him texting this person (who ended up being Sara) and posting on Twitter which was really kind of boring but very hit the nail on the head of how the youth of today is. Poor boy gets dragged into being in a band and he has no experience what so ever. I did find that he ended up learning the bass just a little too quickly, seemed like he just kind of snapped his fingers and all of a sudden he could play really well and keep up to the others who were more experienced. He is a really sweet and shy guy, the kind of guy you want to bring home to meet your parent’s lol.

Koyuki

Wasn’t a big fan of her character for some reason, She’s a very talented girl who I think got into fame a little too young, seems like she missed out on being a kid and teenager.

I’ve thought for days about why it was I didn’t like her and I guess the only reason was because she came in between Yuu and Fuuka for awhile, I know pretty pathetic, but I love my romance anime’s and when they don’t seem to go my way or the characters I want don’t end up together I can get pretty upset, it’s all part of being an anime fan though. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. So if you’re a Koyuki fan or a fan of Koyuki and Yuu that’s totally fine.

And one last thing at the end of the anime what was up with the rabbit costume and the cd with rabbits on it, did I miss something?? If anyone can explain that to me please do.

Sara

Her character grew on me as the series went on. At the beginning she was kind of stuck up and I thought that was just because her brother owned the studio she could get anything she wanted. But she was very introverted and unique and the other members of bands she joined just never took the chance to really get to know her. She really just needed someone to take a chance on her. She is extremely talented as a guitarist. I loved how the person Yuu had been messaging through twitter about every little aspect of his life ended up being her lol. I felt a little sorry for her because she seemed to be developing some feelings for Yuu as well.

 Kazuya

When we are first introduced to him I found him really annoying, I mean how many times does a girl have to say no I don’t want to join the track club for it to sink in. But as the series went on I could see he did enjoy track but it wasn’t his dream. It reminded me of when your parents want you to do something because they never had the chance to or never had the opportunity for scholarships, so it’s their dream not yours, that’s the position that I feel Kazuya is in whether that is true or not is up to you. When he is asked to join the band and admits that he’s played the drums and has his own set you can tell it’s where he wants to be, where it makes him happy.

Makoto

A very sweet guy, who is clearly and openly gay.  I like when anime’s have gay and bisexual characters it makes it more realistic. (Not going to lie at one point during the series I was hoping something would happen between him and Kazuya)

Just as how I felt with Kazuya, Makoto’s family especially his father does not want him to have anything to do with music thinking it’s not a career and that his sons better off studying to become the heir of their family business. I found that he was really good at reading people, knowing how they felt without having to ask. Very good intuition and a good ear to listen.

Ships

Yuu and Fuuka

My favorite couple, I was hoping these two would end up together from the start just from the chemistry they seemed to show together.  Yuu said once that Fuuka opened up so many things for him but I think he did the same for her. They truly brought out the best in each other when they were together.  She made him try new things and come out of his shell. And he helped her find and follow her dreams and make some great friends along the way.
In episode 12 where Yuu finally confesses to Fuuka it was so adorable and definitely the way to confess to a girl, just right out and say it. Way to go Yuu  props my boy!!! Sooo happy these two ended up together even though I do feel like Yuu’s feelings for her about it being love were somewhat forced.

Yuu and Koyuki

Didn’t care for them together, I think because I wanted Yuu and Fuuka to end up together so bad I ended up really hating these two together. I truly get being in love with someone your close friends with where you want to confess but don’t want to risk the friendship. I mean that is kind of the plot to 80% of love stories where it involves friends. So I understand what Koyuki was feeling, and I did find it brave for her to finally confess to him. But she should have confessed in person in private. I know she thought she was protecting him but she ended up making things really complicated.

All in all I would give this anime a 7/10 I think it’s a really good story but the pacing could be worked on and the characters need a little more growth.  I did find the characters really relatable and the music was great. I will say and I may be in the minority when I say this but I’m really glad they did not follow the Manga! My poor heart wouldn’t have been able to take it. I like how they are going down a different path with the anime, it opens up new doors. I don’t think they need a second season but I wouldn’t mind seeing where this band takes them in the future.
